Development and efficiency of grain production: regional aspect

ANNOTATION
The article considers grain production at agricultural enterprises of Lviv region, which is determined by the appropriate social and economic conditions and favourable soil and climate peculiarities. It is stressed that production of grain is of essential economic, social and political importance for development of the region, national economy and food safety of the state. The work identifies the share that Lviv region takes in the grain production of Ukraine, distinguishes the main factors influencing development of grain industry in the region, underlines importance of cereals in the economy of agricultural enterprises of Lviv region, and substantiates that increase of grain production efficiency can be achieved due to its increased concentration. The research supplies analysis of the current dynamics of cropping areas, yield capacity of cereals and grain production by the agricultural enterprises of Lviv region. The author names the technological factors influencing the increase of cereals yield. It is justified that in the studied period, the enterprises significantly increased production of such kinds of cereals as winter barley, maize for grain, and winter wheat that is related with the export focus of the mentioned crops. It is emphasized that in cereals production, the leading positions are taken by such administrative districts as Zolochiv, Sokal, and Brody. The article provides comparison of the profitability of cereals production at the enterprises of Lviv region and Ukraine. Therefore, it is demonstrated that the mentioned index has reduced in its dynamics. The author stresses on the poor efficiency of state regulation in the field of grain production and suggests directions to improve the grain production efficiency.
